New Delhi Municipal Council’s smart city limited (NDMCSCL) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) to provide FTTH (fibre to the home) high-speed broadband services to offices, public and other establishments in Connaught Place and ‘Central Business District’ area.
The project will be inaugurated before August 15 and expected to be extended in other areas under NDMC, a senior civic body official said.
The facility will be available in inner, outer, majestic outer circle, radial roads connecting circles and commercially used radial roads, an official of NDMC said.
Listing features of the project, he said that the facility is equipped with a single point of management for multiple wireless networks to increase efficiency and maximise security.
The official further informed that the revenue generated will be shared equally between NDMCSCL and MTNL. “All the work for laying of the optical fibre and related work has been completed and will be opened soon for the public,” he added.
The project has also been listed on the civic body’s “Smart City” agenda in the budget for 2018-19. The civic body is planning to extend the service in other areas at the end of the year.
